I am a visual artist living and working in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. As an artist, I consider myself to be quite a maverick. However, if you are an open minded art lover, I am sure you will appreciate my art as it is somewhat different. It is "different" in the sense that it is not branded by anyone, or by any popular fashion or artistic style. My works are born from a creative freedom as well as from my independent spirit.
As I look back on my long career, thirty years or so, I have to admit that I have broken off from the established convention, the one that usually goes under the label as contemporary or modern art. In fact if you were to ask me the reason why I chose this different path I would find it difficult to give a simple answer. I will say that certain events in my life have greatly influenced my art, in particular a significant personal tragedy that I suffered twenty years ago.
Besides my artwork I find great solace in being with my family. Meditating, reading good books and listening to classical music are some of my favorite pastimes. I study every approach to an understanding of the meaning of life and even after-life. As for my art, I have gradually become an "Old Master" or rather a late representative of Art Nouveau, although I find it to be impossible to classify. The quotations accompanying my pictures are drawn from the ideas of philosophers, mystics and thinkers of all sorts. As a painter I consider myself lucky for living in one of the most beautiful places of the world: Vancouver Island. If you like art and lovely scenery, including snow-capped mountains and a seemingly boundless view of the ocean, think about visiting Victoria sometime. You will be welcome to see my studio as well!
"Every significant artist is a metaphysician, a propounder of beauty, truths and form, --- theories to no known school." -- El Greco
One feels exhilirated by the majesty of Nature, by the whole Creation of our miraculous world. The elemental powers overwhelm one's sorrow. Gradually I came to understand the message, the hidden laws of Nature and Life: the laws which awaken in the spectator, the meditating mind the universal truth of all relating harmony and beauty. This is the sense of unity of everything concerning us and the whole Universe.
